Die Jury has spoken!

The 16th Mo&Friese Children's Short Film Festival, which takes place every year with the InternationalShortFilmFestival Hamburg, celebrated the ending of an amazing festival week with a thunderous awards ceremony on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2 pm. Three prizes were handed out: the Friese-Award for films from our programmes for 4 and 6 years old ones as well as the Mo-Award for films from our programmes for 9 and 12 years old ones. Both awards were endowed with 1250 Euro each. And the Freestyle Award for films for youths, wich is endowed with 1000 Euro.

The filmmakers hadn't prepared an easy decision for the children's juries: 68 fantastic short films from 32 countries had been accepted for the competetion and where watched critically. THANKS to you, dear jurors! You have done a great job!

The Friese-Award goes to Armenia and Turkey!

Ziazan (Derya Durmaz)

This years Friese-Award goes to Armenia and Turkey. The Jury chose the Film "Ziazan" by Derya D. Durmaz

The Winner of this years Friese-Award is the armenian film Ziazan by Derya D. Durmaz. What we liked about this film is that people talk like they do in real life. Ziazan is a brave girl and she is smart. She tries to achieve her goals, even if she gets the chocolate only in a dream. but it's a nice dream and we also like chocolate."

Tzdafa (Maya Tibermann)

"The decision was tough for us, so we would like to give a commendation to the film Tzdafa by Maya Tibermann. We like this film because it tells its story in a nice way, we were able to follow it without any words. The boy did great things with his magic seashell and the film was technically well made."

The Mo-Award goes to Switzerland and France

Vigia (Marcel Barelli)

At first we would like to say, that we enjoyed each and everyone of the 24 films we have seen. We hope, you filmmakers will do a lot more films in the future.

But the most inspiring one was a film, wich goes like this: Summ, summ! Prchrurr! Öhoöho. "Vigia" a film from France and Switzerland. It tells the story of a grandfather and his grandson, of bees, who once celebrated a party and of farmers, who poison the nature with pesticides. We think that its important, that as many kids and adults as possible have the chance to whatch this film, because it shows us, how humans do not only destroy the bugs, but with them the whole nature. Marcel Barelli sends this message in a very creative, sometimes very funny, sometimes distressing and always beautifully anyway –and wrapped it in a beautifull animation with a great soundtrack!

Weekenfar (Johan Stahl Winthereik)

Because it is nearly impossible to give a price to just one film, we would like to compliment on the danish film "Weekendfar". The relationship between Sune and his chaotic Dad touched us, because it sadly is very realistic. The adventures of the three characters are so entertaining that we nearly fell out of our chairs and then again where thrilled by the story. So we want to give our great admirations to the director, Johann Stahl Winthereik and also the pyrotechnitions and the actors!

The first ever Freestyle award goes to Denmark and Great Britain.

Niemandsland (Michael Gravensen)
Exchange & Mart (Martin Clark und Cara Connolly)

The Freestyle-Award will be divided between the film "Nomansland" ("Ingenmandsland") by Michael Graversen (Denmark 2013) and Exchange & Mart" by Martin Clark and Cara Connolly (Great Britain 2014)

"We watched 12 films from different genres and had intensive and sometimes excessive discussions. Up to the very end we had two favourite films that where as different as it gets. But both so strong and intensive that we finnaly decided to split the award.

One of the two winners is a film that broaches on the topic of sexuallity and sexual assault with an unexpectet lightness. Exchange & Mart" by Martin Clark and Cara Connolly works with a great love of detail great actors, costumes, an amazing location as well as an extraordinary camera.

The other half of the price goes to a documetary from Denmark.

"Nomansland" ("Ingenmandsland") by Michael Graversen accompanies young refuggess and theri hope of asylum .

The film touched us becuase it sgowed how different youths in our age are livinf in a situation of iolation and how they deal with theri despair.

the film ofers a view intom theri lifes while still offering a distance to protect theri privacy. The filmmaker handelst he topic in an open way and shows his protagonists hopes for a new homeland.

Die High-Five-Awards!

Already for the 9th time we have now awarded self-made films by children and teenagers, too. This year's HIGH FIVE!-competition themed "Dancing Dreams".

(Animation by Paulikids)

The second prize goes to the film "Pepe und Dörte":

"Wow, we where impressed by the animated paperfigurines Pepe & Dörte,

We ourselves would definately not be able to build and animate characters like that. We liked the creative way the Paulikids used trash and we also liked the humour of the film."

2513 (Hynek Voracek, Matous Hruby und Bruno Socolic)

3rd Place: 2513

(Animation by Hynek Voracek, Matous Hruby, Bruno Sokolic)

"The hand-made clay characters are very amusing and the cinematography is terrific. The film is very creative, as well as the special effects. The fact that the scaredy-cat saves the town shows us that no human is a pussy but that anybody can have the guts."
