The 14th Mo&Friese Children's ShortFilmFestival, which takes place in the course of the International ShortFilmFestival Hamburg, has ended the 3th of June with its awards in the zeise cinema. The two winner-films, which were selected by the Mo-Jury and by the Friese-Jury, were shown as well as the winners of the "High Five!-Competition“.

Two prices has been awarded: the Friese-Award for the films of the programmes 4+ and 6+ and the Mo-Award for the films of the programmes 9+ and 12+. Both one are worth 1.500,- Euro. For the juries it was very hard to decide, because of the huge diversity of 58 shorts from 23 countries.

Julian

The winner of this year’s Friese-Award is the film "Julian by Matthew Moore". We chose this film because it made us laugh a lot and because it make us feel like seeing a big movie in thirteen minutes. We liked it that Julian beats the adults who are not taking him seriously. We especially liked the surprising and unconventional ending where Julian gets his way against his teacher, his classmate and the principal. It doesn’t happen every day that the principal makes an announcement about the points of view of a school kid.

Missing

The Mo-Award goes to the movie Missing by Cristian Wiesenfeld (Chile, Germany):

„We thought the film was fascinating. The animation was just WOW! We where impressed how a miniature world could transform into a whole film. Our special praise goes to the director Christian Wiesenfeld, who spend three years working in the film. The Mo-award 2012 goes to MISSING!"

Dingi
Join My Band

Furthermore the Mo-Jury wants to congratulate two other films with a special mention. JOIN MY BAND by Naomi Wright (Great Britain) and DINGI by Veit Helmer and students of ULAB & DUFS (Bangladesh, Germany).

Thanks to our Prize-Founders GEOlino undLevantehaus.

Give me five!

For the seventh time the festival has awarded prices for shortfilms made by children true to the slogan "Trough Thick and Thin!". Three awards with a total value of 600 € was sponsored by GEOlino.

Ostsee Freundschaft

1: Baltic Sea Friendship (Short Fiction by Katinka Kutscher and Lotta Horns)

The First Prise of this years HIGH FIVE -Competition goes to Baltic Sea Friendship. The two directors did not just make a film. They also made a song and a music video at the same time. We liked the story of their holiday friendship and we admired the technical aspects as well. The girls are filmed from different perspectives, and the story of the beginning of their friendship is comprehensible even without seeing the pictures from their holiday.

Trauer um Lissy

2: Mourning Lissy (Short Fiction by Lukas Nitsche, Katharina Krause and Chiara Jeschkeit)

The second place goes to Mourning Lissy. The film tells us a story that could have happened in real life. Many of the scenes where acted very well. It’s obvious that the children put a lot of effort into their film.

Zwei Hände

3: Two Hands (Experimental by Julia Andermann)

We where thrilled by the original idea and the unconventional conversion. The shadow theatre was a great concept and we liked the story that told us that we are all dependent on each other. Even the left and the right hand.
