And the winners are...

The Friese-Award goes to Germany, the Mo-Award goes to the UK.

The grand finale of the 13th Mo&Friese Children's ShortFilmFestival, which takes place in the course of the International ShortFilmFestival Hamburg, was the award ceremony on June 12.

Two prices have been awarded by two children jurys: the Friese-Award for the films of the programmes 4+ and 6+ and the Mo-Award for the films of the programmes 9+ and 12+. Each award is worth 1250 Euro.

The two winning films as well as the winners of the "High Five!-Competition“ were screened during the ceremony.

The Friese-Award goes to Duck, Death and Tulip by Matthias Bruhn (Germany 2010). Here the jury's statement: “We liked this film the best because it tells a sad story in a nice way, we felt sympathetic for the duck and also for death..The great animation work and the music fit well to the story. The duck is very funny and death is quite calm, in the end you realise that he liked the duck a lot.”

The Mo-Award goes to the movie Chalk by Martina Amati (UK 2010): "The film which will be shortly nominated as the winner deeply impressed us and appealed to us so much, because the narration was full of verve as well as due to the beauty of the style. The images were very fascinating, because they were of a calm colour. The friendship, that went up and down and through crises intoxicatingly put us under its spell. The actors appeared very convincing.“

Give me five!

For the fifth time the festival has awarded prices for shortfilms made by children true to the slogan "Let the Puppets Dance!". Three awards with a total value of 600 € was sponsored by GEOlino.

1st place

For Mo and Friese’s "Give me five!"-Competition, both Juries agreed to crown Tanzwaffe (Dance Weapon) by Carl Albrecht (Germany 2010) as their winning film: „The first winner of this year’s competition is the film ‘Tanzwaffe’. The film is very funny and we had great fun watching it. Especially funny was the tiger playing a news reporter. We liked the music in the dance scenes and the film has a joky love story.”

2nd place

The second place of the competition goes to Curse of the PharaoII by Midas Kempcke. “This film convinced us with its great technical realization. The animation of the Playmobil figures is rather professional and we could see how much work was put into this film.”

3rd place

“The third place goes to the film Aquarell-City 3900 by Moviebande Donauwörth. We liked the script and the music used in the film fits the story. The set was nice and we could see that the filmmakers have put a lot of effort into it.”
