The 13th Mo&Friese Children's Short Film Festival, June 5 - June 12, proudly presents 50 films from 25 countries!

For one whole week we will turn Hamburg into a sparkling showcase of surprising film-adventures and experimental perspectives. Come and join our cinematic journey around the globe!

The focus of this year’s two special features is on the evergreen darlings of children’s films: the animal and the puppet.

In our opening programme Egg Cebtional Sunday, June 5 we show a captivating selection of archival films featuring chicken. After the screening young and old folks are invited to our vibrant play- and tinker-party with lots of games, cakes and lemonade in the Zeise Hallen.

In the second special, Adventurous Puppet-Trick (Abenteuer Puppentrick), guest curator Anja Ellenberger takes you on an entertaining time travel with three puppet-animations from the GDR film-studio DEFA. Be charmed by these classics!

Puppets and animations rule also our exciting children’s competition High 5!. Children from all over Germany and even Ukraina have sent us their fascinating films which they produced according to the topic Let the Puppets Dance!

Sleepless nighthawks and curious adults are invited to our popular Mo&Friese Late Night on June 9. Adult-friendly at 10 pm we screen a special selection of our 10 programmes in order to convince sceptics that children’s film are by no means for children only. Filmmakers will be present for informal talks.

The grand finale of the festival is the award ceremony on Sunday, June 12. After a great week filled with films our two children-jury announce the best films and the winners of the trophies (sponsored by GEOlino and Springer Bio-Backwerk).

Don’t be a couch potato - we are looking forward to meet you in the cinema!

ITīS BOOKED!

....Pay for a round of film education....

Next to the theatre and the museum, the cinema is a welcome alternative to the class room:

learning about film history, understanding film language, gaining insight into the contexts of film production, distinguishing film genres and meeting the filmmakers. In a nutshell, a visit to the cinema offers the possibility to acquire media competence „live and directly.

Unfortunately, there is only short time and little space left for film education in everyday school-life. Pupils can only visit a few cultural events because their budget is limited and thus, it is especially the so-regarded „popular“ culture cinema that does not get enough attention.

To change this situation, the Mo&Friese Children’s Short Film Festival is looking for supporters who enable school classes to visit the festival by donating money!

By donating 100.- € you can invite a whole school class to the cinema and thus fill the auditorium with many curios and excited children.

Of course, we cordially invite each donor to the opening of the festival. If you wish, we add your name (or the logo of the donating company) to the festival trailer which will be shown before each screening.

And the winners are....

The grand finale of the 13th Mo&Friese Children's ShortFilmFestival, which takes place in the course of the International ShortFilmFestival Hamburg, was the award ceremony on June 12.

Two prices have been awarded by two children jurys: the Friese-Award for the films of the programmes 4+ and 6+ and the Mo-Award for the films of the programmes 9+ and 12+. Each award is worth 1250 Euro.

The two winning films as well as the winners of the "High Five!-Competition“ were screened during the ceremony.
